As is its custom, every year WALPURGIS takes an opera classic off the shelf and, out of sheer curiosity and with great pleasure separates the music from the words so that the content can resonate with us and our era in a new way. Expect an informal evening of music theatre full of delightful performances and cheerful anarchy, but free of taboo. A delight for both opera-lovers and opera dummies!

THE STORY IN SHORT
Times are tumultuous in the Roman Republic.
To expand his power and influence, dictator Silla eliminates all his (potential) rivals systematically. After murdering his most important political opponent Marius en spreading the rumour that Cecilio, his younger brother-in-arms has been killed as well, he demands that Giunia, daughter of Marius and beloved of Cecilio, becomes his wife.
