In October at the breathtaking Cidade da Cultura in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, the 2018 YAMsession brought together musicians and artists from around the world. Jeunesses Musicales International‘s Young Audiences Music program (YAM) aims to create a world in which all children and young people have access to high quality live music.
Over the course of the conference around 560 Galician children were invited to experience showcase performances and delegates could observe how the artists worked to capture their young audiences’ imagination. As well showcase performances, international speakers shared their expertise in the young audiences field and a producer’s forum workshop explored ways to develop productions for young audiences.
YAMsession also includes the annual YAMawards, which celebrate the world’s finest productions for young audiences, supported by RESEO. The UK-based company Opera Schmopera were awarded the RESEO prize for Best Opera at this year’s YAMawards for A Shoe Full of Stars, a comic opera about terrorism aimed at young people.
