Classical Music for Everyone
Founded in 2011, Artichoke aims to open up classical music to all audiences, especially young audiences, through humour and poetry. The company is led by the director/dramatist and show designer, Sophie van der Stegen, who is the founder.
The Cie Artichoke was born out of the need for concert halls and opera houses to renew their audiences. There is a need to convince and attract people who are not concert hall regulars and who for various reasons fear to set foot in the opera.
Objectives
As a creative institution, Cie Artichoke is keen to reach diverse audiences. Through its shows, the company addresses the issues of our time (inclusion, equality, the climate). Preferential prices/access conditions are offered to audiences who need them. The company seeks to create concerts and musical theatre performances that tour in concert halls and help them to renew audiences. It also organises itinerant and atypical concerts in places that are not concert venues to allow a different type of audience to enter the doors. The company also seeks to work with early career young artists work at the beginning of their career. It seeks to join forces with structures that wish to open up classical music to young and diverse audiences.
A flagship project
Les Contes en-chantés: a mixture of classical music, opera and Disney music with a deconstructed reading of fairy tales, to help people discover opera and the issues surrounding its genres.
