Between 2000-2003, RESEO conducted an action research to consider the question “Why/how opera education in Europe today?”. A number of working group set themselves specific tasks:
- Repertoire Working Group created an online database of youth operas,
- Teachers Working Group organised training opportunities for teachers and documented opera resources (teaching material) for use in schools,
- Artists Working Group developed training opportunities for artists to enable them to bring their art across to audiences in the best possible manner,
- Research Working Group set out to answer the ‘what’ and ‘why’ in the project title by commissioning a number of research papers to map the sector and questioned opera houses’ motivations for being involved in this work.
